One Hit Wonders

This week’s “list of links” blog is dedicated to
my “One Hit Wonders” fixation.

I love music and listen to a lot of it, from
different areas. I can recall at a moment’s notice
complete lyrics to obscure songs, especially if
they’re from the 80s. I kick ass at Buzz (PS2). But
if there’s something that really sums up my type
of personality (remember: digital dilletante,
corporate rebel, accidental entrepreneur and heavy
mental refugee) is my fondness for little know bands
and tunes, aka One Hit Wonders:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/One-hit_wonder

I can watch the “One Hit Wonders” VH1 show for
hours, several times, and sing along to most of
those songs while laughing my ass off at some
(or most) of them.

So, in the Web 2.0 world of video, here are some
links that I’ve visited during my 2 week holiday
and that will allow you not only to listen to some
great music but also to get some fashion tips (LOL!)

PS – Just to be clear: I like some of these bands, others I
just like the one-hit-wonder; I like some of these styles, others
I just like the particular one-hit-wonder. Don’t use this list
of one hit wonder videos to derive conclusions regarding my
musical tastes. These are better represented by my single YouTube
contribution: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e4hOyCxiIP4

What To Expect Besides the Spanish Inquisition

More for my future benefit than for anyone reading
these messages, here’s what to expect in the future
from this blog/site/whatever:

– posts both in English and Portuguese; mostly in
English; I do my reading 99% in English (for the
last 20 years or so) and its easier for me to write
in English; I can do Portuguese quite nicely as well,
but will do so only when matters are strictly of local
interest

– posts recovering my scattered digital stuff and
comments on the recovered garbage

– posts on my general areas of interest: Video Games,
Technology, Music, Books, Business and Philosophy; I’ll
try to detail these interests soon, in separate posts

– weblogging posts, weekly posts with links that have
caught my interest/attention (yes boys and girls, the
weblog term was initially about just that, logging your
web travelling/surfing)

On a more technical note: right now the posts are pure
text files on the filesystem and everything is tied
together with a couple of bash scripts (yes, even the
rss.cgi RSS feed generator is a shell scrip; I am teh
shell script master, ph34r…); in the next few days
everything will migrate to a newsgroup server (yes,
the NNTP/Usenet kinda stuff; blogs are just a bad
implementation of Usenet…) and will be served from
a (probably) CherryPy server.

C U!

Fun Stuff Back in 2004

Like 2003, there wasnt much fun stuff back in 2004. I was
still quite busy with my MBA, started working fulltime at
Personalis/GLS and had to worry throughout the year with
my mother’s battle against cancer.

There was still time to do the weekly postings at Gildot…

http://www.gildot.org/search.pl?query=mvalente

… although this was also the year that I left Gildot, as
an editor, contributor and participant:

http://gildot.org/articles/04/09/30/1734233.shtml

Contrary to some “intelligent” opinions, I never did made it
back. Neither did Gildot, incidentally…

PS: continuo à espera, sentado, de um Gildot democratico, dinamizado
apenas pelos seus utilizadores e sem necessidade dos editores.

Fun Stuff Back in 2003

Not much fun stuff back in 2003. I was quite busy with my

MBA and dealing with my father’s death in January. I didnt

do as much stuff online or entrepreneurwise as I used to.
Still there was time to do the weekly postings at Gildot:

Only one deserves to be distinguished, since its still

something that I keep wondering about 4 years later:
Do Software Aberto à Empresa Aberta

Also there was still time (during Summer vacation) to go

and kick ass at Minho Campus Party 2003:

Resposta Aberta a Comunidade Gildot

Caros colegas:

incondicional do Linux.
